Borne of the rubble, a triptych of new songs build Cursebreaker, a new EP from London, UK-based songwriter NYSSA. On the EP, which opens with first single “The Tower,” NYSSA and her flute summon a new future. Throughout Cursebreaker, a Celtic-tinged, gothic folk leaning rock and roll collection, breakup song and protest song collide in a scorched earth mission of mercy, a cautionary tale about the risks of cornering someone who is willing to fight their way out, no matter the cost. The addition of rerecorded and reimagined cuts invites NYSSA’s new world of collaborators in, bringing a communal aspect to songs that have risen over time to become staples of her notable live performances. Equal parts hungering, thrashing, glowering and transcending, Cursebreaker unleashes the spell maker, freed to resume her quest.
